As of November 2023, Middle Fork Outfitters was purchased and now operated by Heart X Outfitters. Still located in the Middle Fork, same area, same tags and same great experience. Gus started his guiding career early in the 2000’s with Ron. They worked side by side for many years on many trails and in many camps. Together they have road and hiked an abundance of the Frank Church Wilderness. Ron and Nara were ready to simplify and enjoy life a bit more. They passed the torch of such a great hunting establishment to Gus and Courtney Thoreson. The Thoreson’s are also Idaho natives and back country enthusiasts. They have a passion for exploring and sharing the outdoors with others. Their 4 kids are just as eager to explore Idaho’s most beautiful locations. Just know, Ron and Nara are still very much involved and still guiding and working trips. You will definitely see them in our camps.

Middle Fork Outfitters is a premier wilderness outfitter in Idaho. Our permitted area is located in Idaho’s Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness and the Salmon-Challis National Forest. It is a land of clear rivers, deep canyons, and rugged mountains. We hunt Fish & Game units 27 and 28; our permitted area is approximately 160 square miles of unforgettable backcountry beauty.

Join us for one of our renowned fair chase elk, deer, bear & wolf combo hunts, winter lion hunts or spring and fall bear hunts from wall tents or our backcountry lodge on Silver Creek. During the summer months, we offer fishing trips on blue ribbon streams & high mountain lakes, trail rides & pack trips. Year round, we offer bed & breakfast stays at the historic B-C ranch & lodge along with pilot fly-in breakfasts where you will enjoy delicious homemade meals in a friendly western atmosphere. Our wilderness guide & packer school is known for producing quality guides & packers for the growing recreation industry.

The Frank is the largest wilderness in the lower 48, encompassing 2,366,757 acres. It is much the same as when the Sheepeater Indians roamed these canyons and painted pictographs in their hunting caves. This is some of the most remote country left in the lower 48 states. Our gentle, well-trained horses and mules will pack us into remote country that many people don’t get to experience.

The B-C Ranch is accessible from Salmon or Challis Idaho by dirt road most of the year. You can also fly into the B-C Ranch using a chartered flight on the ranches private airstrip.
